The IIDA (International Interior Design Association) Salt Lake City hosted a Fashion Remix on October 21, 2010 at the Rail Events Center. The proceeds of the event went to IIDA and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Carpet, floor tiles, wall coverings and upholstery fabrics are some of the materials used by interior designers to create fabulous spaces. For the event, several of Utah’s top architectural firms used these same materials to create fabulous wearable outfits.
What a challenge for designers to utilize the human form instead of a structural building. After long hours of work leading up to the competition, 23 design teams modeled their own designed and created “wearable fashion”.
Here is a picture of the winning dress. It was made out of office chair fabric, a chair back, mouse and electrical cording, and 12 desk lights.
One my favorite runners up was fashioned out of floor tile.
This definately puts a new spin on the idea of reduce, re-use, recycle!
